Those who were critics of her becoming a part of the Royal Family have been hopeful that they could find an ulterior motive behind Prince Harry’s decision to marry Meghan Markle. As it turns out, one theory has been speculated that would explain the couple’s pairing to those who are critical of it.

A popular theory had circulated and gained traction not long after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became engaged in November 2017 which indicated that Prince Harry did have a reason for marrying the American actress. A tweet by writer Greg Pollowitz hinted that there was a chance the marriage was a ploy to allow Great Britain to colonize the United States again in the future.

“Prince Harry’s kids will be Americans,” Pollowitz wrote. “What if one grows up to be president and is in line for the throne at the same time? Brits are playing long-ball here, but it’s a smart move. They want America back and this is how they’ll do it.”

Of course, while Pollowitz’s theory would satisfy those who weren’t fond of Markle becoming the eventual Duchess of Sussex, there was a flaw in his logic. While Markle is still a U.S. citizen, and could still retain that if she wishes once she becomes an official British citizen, where she is from does not apply to her children. Should she and Prince Harry have kids, and they are born in Great Britain, they will be British citizens—not American. Because they won’t be American citizens, they wouldn’t be eligible to eventually run for President of the United States, as the requirements for that office include being a “natural born citizen” of the country.

Of course, that isn’t the only crazy theory that has floated over the years in regards to the royal family. According to Marie Claire, several others have been suggested that question Harry’s own paternity, Princess Diana’s death, and even if members of the royal family are supernatural.

Among those theories? That Markle is actually a robot, Prince Charles is a vampire, and Queen Elizabeth II is an extraterrestrial reptile. While they’ve never been outwardly refuted, like many stories which circulate about the royals, they are very unlikely to be true.
