Some believe that Prince Harry suffered more than Prince William after Princess Diana’s shocking death in 1997.

On the online forum site Quora, Deanna Eppers, an ardent follower of the royal family, said that Prince Harry was two years younger than Prince William when their mom died following a fatal car crash in Paris. The Duke of Sussex was just 12 years old then, and he had not even reached his teen years yet.

Following the death of the Princess of Wales, Prince Harry should have been given good counseling for years to help him deal with the loss of a parent. “He did suffer more. He lost her before he began going through the awkward stage of puberty, whereas William was older and could reason and process his mother’s death more easily. I don’t mean it was easy for Prince William to deal with Diana’s death, but he could compartmentalize his mom’s death and carry on with his life,” she wrote.

However, Gina Seldarius, a part-time watcher of the royals, said that she didn’t think this was the case. In fact, she even thought that Prince William suffered more because he was much more involved in the feuds and divorce of Prince Charles and Princess Diana for the very reason that he was older.

“They are two very different personalities though, have had different experiences and were at a different stage when their mother died. They processed their grief differently… William settled down fairly early into a relationship with someone he trusted,” she wrote.

David Townsend, who was born and raised in London, said that it’s impossible to say that Prince Harry suffered more because there are different proof saying otherwise. The bottom line is, the siblings both struggled with the death of their mom at such a young age.

Princess Diana just got out of her marriage from Prince Charles legally for one year when she died on Aug. 31, 1997.
