Princess Diana was known to deviate from royal traditions, including how she raised her sons, Princes William and Harry. In fact, she once remarked that she was going to send the royal heirs to a comprehensive school, just to tease her advisors.

The late Princess of Wales was admired for choosing to do things her way instead of following the norm, from rearing her children to making unforeseeable moves when she was a member of the royal family. She also tried to give Princes William and Harry a normal upbringing as much as she could and wanted to be hands-on when it comes to her two children.

Tom Quinn, a royal author, revealed in the new documentary “William & Kate: Too Good To Be True?” that Princess Diana once had her advisors going haywire after telling them that she would send Princes William and Harry to a comprehensive to study instead of Eton College where they were expected to go.

“I heard a wonderful story that Diana used to tease the rather stuffy old-guard advisors, who were themselves old Etonians. She used to tease them and say, ‘I really think I must look at sending Wills and Harry to Holland Park Comprehensive School. It would do them good to be educated with ordinary children,’” Quinn recalled.

This was just one incident among many that showed Princess Diana’s defiance against royal traditions. There was a time when she dressed up as a man and headed to a gay bar with no less than Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury, Evening Standard reported.

One time, Princess Diana pranked her eldest child, the now-Duke of Cambridge, during his 13th birthday. The Princess of Wales had invited models Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell, among many more, to the party, much to the surprise of Prince William, who was shocked to see them after coming home from school. After all, he allegedly had posters of the stunners in his room.

A former chef of the royal family, Darren McGrady, also divulged that Princess Diana ordered a humongous cake in the shape of breasts for the birthday celebrant, who turned “bright red” when he saw his mother's surprise.
