A Texas woman admitted to killing a man she identified as her husband over an affair he had with another woman. The case took a shocking turn when a third woman showed up and said she had been married to the victim for over a decade and never knew about the man's relationships.

Karin Stewart, 51, was arrested Saturday for allegedly shooting victim, James Hargrove, after he brought home another woman and said he was in love with her. Responding officers found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds at a home on Buttress Root Drive in the city of Spring, according to the New York Post.

James was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Stewart allegedly told investigators that James was her husband. She also admitted to shooting him after he said he was in love with the 41-year-old woman he brought home, who was still in the house during the shooting but escaped without injuries.

Stewart was charged with murder in connection with James' death.

As Stewart made a court appearance Monday, a woman identified as Sandra Hargrove told KPRC 2 she was James' real wife.

Sandra said she went to Stewart's first court appearance after finding out from her stepson that her husband had been fatally shot. She also claimed she had been married to James since 2009 and had no idea he was romantically involved with other women.

"He's still my husband," Sandra told KHOU 11. "We have grandkids, we have kids. We have nieces and nephews. But he's still my husband."

The Harris County District Office said the victim had been in a relationship with Stewart for seven years. They added that Stewart and James lived together on and off during those years.

Sandra said she thought Stewart was nothing more than a caregiver to her husband, who had several health issues and was paralyzed for a year.

"He had two heart attacks, a stroke, his kidneys were failing. He had just recovered from all of that. So for him to make it through all of that, to end like this," Sandra told the outlet.

Meanwhile, the lover who witnessed the alleged murder told investigators she was under the impression that James and Stewart were in an open relationship. She said she thought the man wanted her to meet Stewart.

Stewart remained in custody Tuesday on a bond of $75,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on August 17.

It wasn't the first time Stewart got involved in an incident of domestic violence, ABC13 reported. She was charged with felony battery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for running over her then-husband with a truck over an argument about keys in January 2016, according to records. Stewart pleaded guilty after authorities lowered the charge to simple battery in the case in 2018.
