A Kentucky woman has been accused of stabbing her boyfriend multiple times over the weekend following an argument about fast food.

Paducah police responded to a domestic issue report at a residence on Goodman Street around 11:05 p.m. on Oct. 31. Responding officers found the victim walking away from the crime scene.

The victim accused his girlfriend, 23-year-old Emily L. Darnell of stabbing him. The man told the police that he was sleeping when Darnell woke him up. She wanted to go to a fast food restaurant. When he refused and went upstairs to get away from the accused, Darnell followed him, according to KFVS.

During their argument, Darnell grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the right shoulder, left arm and wrist, said the police.

The victim was taken to Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, WSIL-TV reported. Police later arrested Darnell and charged her with second-degree assault and domestic violence. She has been booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.

According to a recent report, Kentucky has witnessed one of the most violent years in a decade. Since the onset of the pandemic, Kentucky’s homicide rate in 2020 was one of the highest since 1995. The state also registered one of the highest numbers of aggravated assault cases in 2020, WSAZ reported.

The majority of violent crimes reportedly happened at home. In two-thirds of the cases, the victim knew the offender.

In a similar incident, a mother-daughter duo was arrested after they allegedly stabbed the mother’s boyfriend following a heated argument.

Last month, an Indiana woman was stabbed to death by her neighbor after she yelled at the accused for stepping on her dog. Police were called to the scene after the victim was found lying and bleeding out in the hallway of the apartment building. Officers at the scene administered first aid but were unable to save the woman.
