A young woman has died after she was hit by two vehicles on Colorado Interstate. She was allegedly abandoned by a rideshare driver for "being ill" in the vehicle.

The unidentified woman in her 20's met with the accident after she and her friends were dropped off the rideshare vehicle on the side of northbound lanes of I-25 in Thornton at about 12.33 a.m. on Jan.1, police said, reported The Denver Post.

The woman walked to the roadway that had a speed limit of 65 mph. She was then "sideswiped by a dark truck" that left without stopping. The woman collapsed and was struck again by a second vehicle, which stopped and remained at the scene till police arrived.

The driver of the first vehicle, identified as 33-year-old Adam Wooley of Fredrick, turned himself in to cops Monday. Wooley's vehicle was seized and he was facing charges of hit-and-run involving death, NY Post reported. The second driver would not face charges, police said.

Police believe the woman was kicked out of the vehicle after she became ill during the ride. It is not clear if was nauseous or if she vomited inside the vehicle. It is also not known if the woman and her friends voluntarily ended the trip, officers said.

"She paid; the ride was terminated. Who terminated it and what happened there, I do not know," said Jesus Mendez, an officer from Thornton police department.

The rideshare driver may not face criminal charges in connection with the woman's death. Officials also did not reveal which ride-hailing service the woman was using.

"I do know that is not the cause of the accident. It's not that a vehicle ran off the side of the road and struck them. This person walked out into the roadway and was struck," Mendez added.

In an unrelated incident involving a rideshare driver, a 36-year-old pregnant woman in Georgia was shot by a Uber driver after an argument with her. The woman who was shot three times had to give birth prematurely, reports said.
