A 37-year-old woman in the Indian state of Telangana is in critical condition after she attempted to take her own life hours after her husband died by suicide over the weekend.

The woman, identified as Chinna Ammulu, jumped from the second floor of the two-story house their family was renting in the town of Narsapur in Medak district Sunday, local newspaper Telangana Today reported.

Ammulu was taken to a private hospital in Hyderabad after the fall and was found to have fractured both of her legs. The woman's condition is said to be critical, and she is currently fighting for her life at the hospital, according to the outlet.

The mother of two reportedly attempted to kill herself after she learned that her husband, Rama Rao, jumped in front of a moving train at Secunderabad Railway Station and died Saturday night.

The woman's relatives said Rao, a 43-year-old government school teacher originally from the Vizianagaram district of neighboring Andhra Pradesh, was reportedly driven to take his own life by family disputes, police said.

Authorities in Narsapur have registered a case over the incident.

A similar incident occurred last week in the state of Maharashtra when a 40-year-old teacher died hours after she learned her husband took his own life.

The woman, identified as Sakshi Kulpe, collapsed during her husband's funeral rites Tuesday. She was taken to a hospital, where she was later declared dead on arrival.

Kulpe, who was unwell prior to her collapse due to malaria, died of cardiac arrest likely caused by mental shock, doctors said.

"It seems she was unable to bear the grief of her husband's death, as she was already unwell," senior inspector Sanjay Patil of Kalamboli police was quoted as saying.

Kulpe's husband, Sandeep, was found dead near a temple in Kharghar after he was reported missing. The food delivery worker did not return home and could not be reached on his phone, but authorities were able to find him by tracking his device's location.

Sandeep was taken to a hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. He died from consuming a poisonous substance, police said.

Sakshi's family reportedly faced a financial crisis, and her husband was driven to take his own life after he was unable to arrange money for her malaria treatment.

An accidental death case was registered at Kharghar police station over Sandeep's death.
