In a huge parking blunder, a woman in Germany plunged her car 35 feet down an elevator shaft after mistaking it for a parking spot.

The unidentified woman found herself in a soup after her car made a free fall and landed upside down at the bottom of the shaft in Stuttgart on Saturday. It was a sheer miracle that she survived the freak accident and was hoisted to safety by the fire crews, Lad Bible reported.

The 38-year-old unnamed driver, who was searching for a parking space for her Smart car, rammed the elevator door and it burst open, sending her vehicle down the shaft. The quick-thinking woman managed to climb out of her car and made an emergency call.

Two firefighters descended down the shaft, strapped the woman to a stretcher and lifted her up to safety. She was given first aid on the spot and was rushed to a hospital.

"After being rescued from the elevator shaft, the person was handed over to the rescue service and taken to a hospital for further treatment," said Daniel Anand, a spokesperson for the fire and rescue agency, reported Times-now News.

"I have no idea how that could have happened. Physically, I'm fine again," the woman told German daily Bild.

The elevator was taken out of service following the incident and fire crews blocked its doors with wooden planks.

In December 2020, a woman had a close shave after her car careened off a cliff and plunged 100 feet down in San Francisco's Fort Funston. The woman was rescued and taken to the hospital. Her condition was serious at the time. A video of the incident showed the car got flipped over after it came to a halt on the beach below the cliff. No other details were released about the incident.
