A 10-month-old baby was attacked and killed by two pet dogs Tuesday night in North Carolina.

The incident took place at a home on Riparian Court in Johnston County's Angier.

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell told local media that two Rottweilers attacked the child. Deputies arrived at the scene and found the baby unresponsive. Paramedics performed CPR but they could not save the infant.

Capt. Danny Johnson of the Johnston County Sheriff's Department told ABC11 that the father of the child stepped outside for a few minutes to move a sprinkler Tuesday night. When he was talking to a neighbor, he heard a commotion inside the house. When he entered the home, he found the family's two Rottweilers attacking the baby.

The gender of the baby has not been revealed.

Johnson said the child's father was a member of law enforcement but it was not revealed which agency he worked for. The officer added that there weren't any previous incidents of violent attack or behavior involving the dogs. No other small children were present in the home at the time.

The two dogs were seized by Johnston County Animal Control. The fate of the dogs remains unknown.

Earlier this month, a 1-month-old baby was mauled to death by a pet dog in Connecticut. When officers entered the home, they found the baby with severe injuries. The family was devastated following the attack. The dog involved in the attack was a pit bull mix.

In a similar dog attack incident in May, a 4-year-old girl was mauled to death by her pet dog in Oak Grove Road in Texas. The unidentified girl was rushed to a hospital but she died. Following the attack, the canine was euthanized.
