A teenager in Malaysia is believed to have killed herself on Monday over an Instagram post she shared on the popular social media site.

The 16-year-old reportedly jumped to her death several hours after asking her followers, "Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L," reports Reuters. D/L represented "death or life."

After 69 percent of people voted in favor of her dying, Malaysian Police Chief Aidil Bolhassan said the teen died of suicide shortly after, though she will undergo an autopsy to determine whether other factors came into play.

“We are conducting a post-mortem to determine whether there were other factors in her death,” Bolhassan said, adding that the teen had a history of depression.

Malaysian lawmakers are now urging lawmakers to pursue a criminal investigation as anyone convicted of abetting the suicide of a minor could be sentenced to death or face up to 20 years in jail.

Instagram has given condolences to the teenager’s family and said the company had a responsibility to make its users feel safe and supported.

“As part of our own efforts, we urge everyone to use our reporting tools and to contact emergency services if they see any behavior that puts people’s safety at risk,” Wong Ching Yee, Instagram’s head of communications in the Asia-Pacific, said.
