A 39-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday evening after he accidentally shot a 16-year-old boy.

The man was allegedly trying to stop a pitbull from charging and attacking another dog. The shooting happened at 19200 block of Bentler on the city’s west side in the evening.

Apparently, he was barbecuing dinner when a neighbor walked a pit bull nearby that got loose. The dog then attacked the 39-year-old man’s German Shepherd that was tied to a fence.

In the ensuing madness, the man got out his gun and fired at least one shot hitting the teen in the leg.

Police were called to the scene by the shooter himself. Police then executed a search warrant at the shooting location on Bentler.

The man’s fiancée, Kimberly Ford stated her fiancé called the police on himself. Apparently, she said he was trying to protect the teen who was getting mauled by the pitbull.

She did admit though that her fiancée made a mistake by drawing the weapon and shooting the boy. It is not yet apparent the charges the man is going to face at this time.

The boy is in critical condition at a local area hospital.

It is not the first time a pit-bull has been connected to a criminal incident in the past month, let alone the previous year.

A few weeks ago in Philadelphia, officers were called to the scene after reports of a dog attack on a homeless man. The pit-bull and a bullmastiff were tearing the man apart. At one point it seemed like they were dragging him off down the street.

Police at this time were forced to fire their weapons at ended up killing the bullmastiff, but the pit-bull survived.

Another incident happened in Westchester a few weeks ago when two pit-bulls designated vicious dogs escaped their owner’s home and attacked a neighbor’s dachshund. Unfortunately, the victim of the attack, in this case, did not survive the attack.

The one carrying out the attack had to be euthanized, but the female was taken to another animal hospital pending a decision on her fate.

The rate of attacks from pit-bulls is not in question because other breeds have proven aggressive over the years to both people and other dogs.

That being said, the addition of aggressive dog species and firearms in a volatile situation is not a right combination. Unfortunately, Kimberley Ford’s fiancé had to learn the hard way.
