A 7-year-old boy got his hand amputated after his father allegedly burned it as a punishment for being naughty. The father was arrested for the heinous act and the child was getting treatment at a hospital. The event originally took place on Dec. 19 in Montana de la Flor, Honduras, but was reported to the police Monday.

The police officers responding to the crime scene told local media that the father burned the boy’s hand as the child ate something which the man asked him not to.

Local reports said the child had severe third-degree burns when he was taken to the hospital. The complications in the hand along with the infections that had manifested due to the delay in treatment had eventually led to the amputation of the arm. The doctors said the child had severe infection in the arm which could lead to further complications if not amputated.

After the event surfaced, the police had detained the boy’s father, 49-year-old Leonardo Soto. The child, along with his two brothers aged five and three, were living with Soto and after his arrest, the three boys were shifted to the Direction of Children, Adolescents and Family to be looked after.

The name of the child and other details were not released by the police officers. Investigation into the case was ongoing.
