A burglar seems to have taken the saying "sleeping on the job" quite literally after flaking out in a house in Ohio. The burglar who allegedly broke in overnight was eventually discovered by the houseowner the next morning.

Stacy Steadman who shares the Canton home with her husband, son and her husband’s brother said that she noticed the light was on in her guest bedroom Monday morning. When she went inside the room, Steadman found a man lying on the bed, reported the Associated Press. The intruder was identified as a 33-year-old man from East Rochester.

After finding the man, Steadman woke up her husband’s brother, Bryant Pearson, who then proceeded to chase the man out of the house. Steadman said the suspect took a pair of her son’s underwear on his way out.

Steadman’s husband, Raymond Pearson, said he saw the man walking on their street without a shirt and waited for him to walk away from there before driving away at around 4 a.m. to work.

“When I left here, my family was sound asleep. My family was safe,” said Raymond to the Canton Repository.

"He acted like he wasn't doing anything wrong!" Steadman told the outlet.

Later, a distraught Steadman noticed that the sliding door to her backyard was open and the intruder’s soaking wet pants were by their pool. The intruder also allegedly ate the leftover chicken from their dinner and even lit a candle in the bathroom. “He just helped himself to everything in our house,” said Steadman, reported AP News.

On Monday, police were able to apprehend the intruder down the street before Steadman called them to report the incident. According to the police, officers believed he was under the influence of alcohol and/or some type of drugs and took him to a hospital for further evaluation. The intruder has been charged with burglary and has been issued a summon to appear in court. He is also facing aggravated drug possession charges from a separate incident that happened in July.

Steadman said they did not hear the man break-in perhaps because her son was a solid sleeper, her brother-in-law kept the TV on while sleeping and she left the air conditioner on. She remains rattled by the incident and feels shaken that the man was inside the house for hours without them even realizing it.
