  • Amazon shoppers can now access the e-commerce company's diagnostics site
  • Customers can now purchase Amazon's at-home COVID-19 test kits
  • The results of the tests will be uploaded to an Amazon online portal

Amazon is now selling online a COVID-19 test kit that it originally made for the use by its employees.

AmazonDX.com, the company’s diagnostics website, had previously only been available to employees. But on Tuesday, the website appeared to let customers sign in using the same login credentials they use to access the shopping part of the e-commerce site.

Amazon shoppers now have access to a COVID-19 diagnostics test kit that is sold for $39.99 on the website, according to Stat News. The product is shipped within one day for people who have a Prime subscription. However, the one-day shipping only applies in some areas of the United States.

Customers who purchase the diagnostics tool can swab their noses at home and place the swab in a box with a shipping return label included in the kit. The swabs would be sent to a centralized lab to get tested. The results will be uploaded to AmazonDx.com.

In March, Amazon earned emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for its test kit. And last week, the FDA also issued an EUA that allows STS Lab Holdco, an unit of Amazon, to sell its Real-Time RT-PCR test kits to people ages 18 and above.

The e-commerce giant is currently offering two other COVID-19 test kits. A diagnostics tool developed by genomics company DxTerity is currently selling for $99, while a 10-minute rapid testing kit developed by Quidel is being offered at $24.95.

There are dozens of tests that have been authorized to take at home by the FDA, and some of them are available without a prescription over the counter. In April, three rapid COVID-19 test kits were made available over the counter at CVS, Walgreens and Walmart pharmacies. The are:

The Ellume COVID-19 Home Test Kit

Ellume is the first rapid, at-home test kit that was given emergency use authorization by the FDA. The test, which sells for $38.99, delivers results in 15 minutes through a downloadable app.

Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 Antigen Self-Test

This home testing kit can deliver results within 15 minutes. A box of the kit, costing $23.99, comes with two tests to be administered twice over the course of three days.

Pixel by Labcorp Home Collection Kit

This kit, which retails at $124.99, is a PCR testing toll. Each purchase includes a remote evaluation by lab clinicians. Users are required to send their tests to Labcorp, who will post results on their website.

A couple of other at-home tests authorized by the FDA are not yet available at retailers.
