Pope feared the worst when he found Smurf unconscious on the bathroom floor, but on “Animal Kingdom” Season 4, episode 5, the matriarch will make a decision that reminds the Cody boys she’s still in charge.

“Pope (Shawn Hatosy) learns disturbing details about where Smurf (Ellen Barkin) has been, and the revelation puts Angela’s (Emily Deschanel) spot in the house in jeopardy,” the “Reap” synopsis teases.

In the TNT promo video, Smurf tells J (Finn Cole), Craig (Ben Robson), Deran (Jake Weary) and Pope that they owe her money. After learning about her cancer diagnosis, Smurf didn’t take her doctor’s advice to begin receiving treatment.

While it appears Pope knows something is wrong with his mother, will Smurf share her diagnosis with the rest of the Cody boys?

“Adrian’s (Spencer Treat Clark) return to Oceanside leads to a confrontation with Deran,” the “Animal Kingdom” Season 4, episode 5 synopsis says.

In the previous episode, Deran learned Adrian was secretly selling drugs. Since the two decided to become exclusive, Deran has openly shared details about his family’s criminal lifestyle. After trusting Adrian with his darkest secrets, will Deran be able to forgive his boyfriend from hiding the truth?

“J lays the groundwork for a new job,” the “Reap” synopsis teases. In the promo video for the TNT drama, J struggles to catch his breath as he points his gun. Following a conversation with Deran, J realized he needed to find the group safer jobs if he was going to be their leader.

It appears J is determined to prove himself, but how far will he go to make his family see that he deserves to call the shots?

“Animal Kingdom” Season 4, episode 5 airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
