A group of anti-Trump Republicans has announced they will endorse a group of centrist Democrats living in swing districts in the 2022 midterm elections.

The Renew America Movement (RAM) was founded by moderate Republicans after the insurrection that took place at the Capitol building on Jan. 6 after numerous false claims of election fraud made by former President Trump.

The group is headed by former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, R- NJ, and former Gov. Bill Weld, R- Mass, who both agree supporting moderate Democrats is vital to protecting democracy.

“There is an urgent effort by Republicans and former Republicans to stem the tide of anti-democratic and lie-based Republican leaders in congress before it’s too late,” RAM said in an announcement.

"With the mounting threats to our democracy and Constitution, we need people who work proactively to lead their party and the country away from the political extremes," Joel Searby, the group's national political director, told Reuters.

RAM will be endorsing 11 Democrats, 9 Republicans, and 1 Independent in the upcoming election. Among the candidates receiving endorsements are Sen. Mark Kelly, D- Ariz., Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D- Va., Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D- Mich., Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R- Alaska., Sen Liz Cheney, R- Wyo., and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R- Ill.
