After a wait that started in September, iPad users can breathe a sigh of relief, as Apple iOS 4.2 is now available for download on iPad, iPhone and iPods.

The iOS 4.2 levels the playing field by making features available on iPhone and iPods now on iPads. The new OS iOS 4.2 brings over 100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 to iPad including Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint.

The new features make multitasking easier on iPad without taxing the battery. The new iOS also renders the much-awaited AirPlay and AirPrint features to iOS devices. The AirPlay feature supports Apple TV as it allows users to stream digital content from iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to Apple TV. The Airplay feature also syncs with any wireless audio systems.

Apple also announced that AirPlay-enabled speakers would be launched in the coming months.

The AirPrint feature allows users to send print command directly from iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to WiFi-enabled printers like HP Photosmart, HP LaserJet Pro and HP Officejet which will be the first lineup of printers to support iOS devices.

The list of features also includes enhanced enterprise support so businesses can take advantage of stronger security features, new device management capabilities and improved enterprise integration; industry-leading accessibility enhancements which speaks of Apple's strategy to gain enterprise mileage.

The iOS 4.2 also brings the Find My iPad feature that helps in tracing missing iPads.

The update in OS is an iteration of Apple's strategy to offer same experience across different devices, as the greatest beneficiary of the update is iPad as it now avails all the features of an iPhone and iPod.
