As hundreds of thousands of people wait for April, the pregnant giraffe, to give birth, their patience may be rewarded very soon. The Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, said Wednesday that it’s finally time to get excited.

“Ok Gang... if you have been watching today, you should start getting excited... we are seeing almost all the signs of birth happening within the coming days,” April’s vet at the zoo said in a post Wednesday evening, “Of course, my schedule is crazy for the next few days so naturally, we will pick the worst time possible.”

“Keepers report continued discharge and mammary development,” the post continued. “Appetite was off this morning - back this evening!”

The upstate New York zoo set up a live cam to document April’s pregnancy and the birth of her calf early last month. While the live stream made April an instant internet sensation, there has been no sign of her going into active labor over a month after the camera was set up.

The zoo posts updates about the giraffe twice a day on its Facebook page, which is followed by almost 1 million people. The morning update Wednesday showed great optimism about April’s pregnancy.

“We will not confirm active labor, but we do have discharge that would suggest the countdown to calf has begun!” the park reported.

“Our team and veterinarian are on standby. We could be hours away or days — so do not stop your day — but certainly don't stop watching!” the morning update read.

The newborn will be April’s fourth calf and the first for her mate and neighbor Oliver, who is frequently featured in the live stream. At birth, the calf will weigh about 150 pounds and be 6 feet tall, according to the zoo. The calf’s name will be decided through a contest.
