  • “Big Little Lies” Season 3 is not possible right away, as per the series creator
  • The show may not return due to stars’ busy schedules
  • Nicole Kidman has five upcoming projects

The future of the mega-hit HBO drama “Big Little Lies” still remains uncertain. Despite its popularity among fans and critics, the potential third season is still not confirmed.

Based on Liane Moriarty’s novel with the same name, this star-studded drama has earned massive critical acclaim and plentiful accolades. Starring Reese Witherspoon (Madeline), Nicole Kidman (Celeste), Shailene Woodley (Jane), Alexander Skarsgard (Perry), Zoe Kravitz (Bonnie), Laura Dern (Renata), Kathryn Newton (Abigail), and Meryl Streep (Mary), the show featured two highly successful seasons.

“Big Little Lies” Season 2 finale ended with a bombshell whereby Bonnie and the rest of the gang arrive at the police station to confess the murder of Celeste’s husband Perry Wright. Since then, fans have been clamoring for the third season of the series to find out what happens next to the Monterey Five.

Fans will be disappointed to know that “Big Little Lies” Season 3 is not happening in near future. It might have not been called off officially, but it is not possible right now, according to series creator David E. Kelley.

“I’m not sure logistically how it could be done because everyone is so busy,” Kelley told TV Line. “It [certainly] couldn’t be done right away. Down the road? Maybe.”

He went on to reveal that the development of the show “hasn’t progressed very far” and it is because of the scheduling issues. While Kidman reportedly has five projects in her hands, Kravitz is busy playing Catwoman in the upcoming movie “Batman.”

“All [of the actresses] are extremely busy,” Kelley said.

The television drama revolves around the lives of five friends living in the upscale city of Monterey, California. The first season of the series received 16 Primetime Emmy Awards and multiple Golden Globe awards including Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film.

However, if the show returns, fans are assured that it will be “good.” Previously, speaking with TV Line in Oct. 2020, the series’ leading actress Kidman revealed that Moriarty and Kelley “have a really good idea for” the third season of the series. She went on to reveal that the author and the series creator have shared “a tidbit” of the idea with her.

Nevertheless, Kidman has expressed interest in reprising her role as Celeste and promises many great stories.

“I would like there to be [a Season 3],” she told the outlet. “There are so many great stories to tell and I am open to all the different horizons. I think it would take an enormous amount of commitment from all of us. We all love each other and want to work together. We’re deeply intertwined now. There’s this enormous pull from this desire to just be together.”
