“Bones” Season 12 premieres today! The Fox series airs episode 1 on Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. EST.

However, before catching up on all the new episodes of the crime show, let’s recap on what happened in the Season 11 finale. The Jeffersonian and FBI were still on the hunt for the notorious serial killer known as The Puppeteer who lives with the bodies of his victims.

Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) was wracked with dreams of Wendell and his burned hands. She sees a therapist, Dr. Brandon Faulk, who also happened to be the therapist for The Puppeteer’s latest victim. Of course, Dr. Faulk isn’t the murderer and Brennan is determined to prove her husband Booth (David Boreanaz) wrong even though he fits the profile.

The whole episode drops multiple subtle clues on Brennan’s former assistant, Zack Addy (Eric Millegan). The killer is well-versed with human anatomy, has weak hands, loves music and is exceptionally intelligent. It is only after Brennan gets kidnapped that Booth is able to piece the clues together and realize that Zack is the one who took his wife.

The final scene of “Bones” ended with Zack telling his former boss, “Dr. Brennan, it is good to see you again. You and I, we have so much to talk about.” He also has a mysterious scar on his forehead. What has he been up to for eight years? Hopefully, the final season will answer this question and give fans the closure they need for this troubled character.

Zack was last seen in Season 3. He was under the influence of cannibalistic serial killer Gormogon and admitted to murdering someone for him. However, he never actually killed anyone. The former squintern was placed in a secure psychiatric hospital.

Furthermore, Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) felt some pain in his legs. Although it was a searing pain, it was enough to give him (and fans) hope that he might be able to walk again.

“Bones” Season 12 premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
