After Angelina Jolie filed court documents requesting a formal child support arrangement with Brad Pitt, sources revealed the actress’ next step is to stake her claim on a portion of her husband’s net worth.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been embroiled in a bitter divorce for quite some time, and it appears things have become more intense as the estranged couple attempts to legally end their marriage and figure out how to peacefully co-parent their kids.

Sources told TMZ Jolie isn’t willing to walk away from the marriage without receiving a cut of the income Pitt pulled in over their 12-year romance. However, the outlet notes the actress’ desire for a financial award is a bit complicated.

Although Pitt and Jolie first got together in 2004, the couple didn’t get married until 2014, after making the decision to wait until gay marriage was legal in California before tying the knot for themselves. Even though there is no prenup in place, the actress’ divorce filing in 2016 only entitles her to the money he made during their legal union, however.

While Pitt has made more money than Jolie over the course of their relationship, the only way she could get a piece of the fortune he acquired during that time would be to prove they had an agreement in place in which the “Fury” star promised to support her.

Those close to the actress revealed she’s in talks to file that claim, however, an insider revealed Pitt has laughed off the idea of paying Jolie a portion of the money he earned throughout their romance. Pitt claims both stars were well off at the start of their relationship and a financial agreement was never required between them.

News of Jolie’s interest in Pitt’s fortune comes after the actress filed documents earlier this week, claiming Pitt “has paid no meaningful child support since separation.” The “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” actor responded to his wife by filing his own documents.

Pitt’s brief revealed he loaned Jolie $8 million to purchase the house she currently lives in and has given her over $1.3 million in child support.

Not long after the actor submitted his paperwork to the court, Jolie’s lawyer slammed him for including the home loan in his documents. “Following the incident of September 2016, Angelina and the children needed to move from the family home, which Brad chose to keep, including all of its contents,” Samantha Bley DeJean said in a statement to Us Weekly.

“Brad was asked to assist in the expense of a new home for Angelina and the children, but instead he loaned Angelina money, for which he is charging her interest on a payment plan. Angelina will of course honor that loan. A loan is not, however, child support and to represent it as such is misleading and inaccurate,” she added.

Along with struggling to finalize their marriage, Jolie and Pitt have yet to reach a permanent custody agreement for their six children, Pax, Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh and twins, Vivienne and Knox.
