While Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) are going strong in “Chicago P.D.” Season 4, one couple isn’t even together. Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), who was once Adam Ruzek’s (Patrick John Flueger) fiancée on the NBC series, is no longer with him.

Worse still, the newly minted detective decided to take a leave of absence after her sister Nicole (Jules Willcox) suffered from a brutal assault. She decided to take time off to take care of her sister and her daughter Zoe (Aimee Laurence). Squerciati isn’t returning to the TV show this season. Which means we will see Burgess only in Season 5. What does that mean for Burgess and Ruzek’s future? Is there hope that they will reunite?

“I don’t think the Ruzek relationship is really ready to blossom quite yet,” Squerciati told TVLine. “They’re still figuring each other out and figuring out how to work together.” Moreover, reuniting with her former fiancé is the last thing on the troubled detective’s mind who now has to look after her niece. “I don’t think she’s really thinking about relationships at all right now, unfortunately.”

Furthermore, a scene shared by Burgess and Ruzek didn’t make the final cut in “Chicago P.D.” Season 4, episode 19. In the scene, which was later shared by NBC (and can be played below), Ruzek offers his former lover some comfort following Nicole’s attack. “There’s still a lot of decent guys in the world,” he tells her before casually rubbing her back.

In other news, the police procedural is currently on a short break and will return on Wednesday, April 26. Episode 20 will see Voight (Jason Beghe) investigate a 17-year-old case again that he worked on after he finds a murder weapon in the present that links to this old case.

“Chicago P.D.” Season 4 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
