A Chicago Police officer was stabbed and another was injured while confronting a man holding a woman at knifepoint at a Roseland residence.

Cops responded to a 911 call at a house on the 9900 block of South Wentworth Avenue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The caller told dispatchers a man with a knife entered his house and was holding a woman at knifepoint in the bedroom, according to Deputy Chief Daniel O'Connor, WGN-TV reported.

Upon reaching the scene, police talked to an individual who said a man had broken into his residence and was holding a woman at knifepoint in a second-story bedroom.

Officers found a knife-wielding man, believed to be 35 years old, and a woman in the bedroom. As the officers confronted the suspect, they reportedly called on him to drop the knife and let the woman go.

While one of the officers managed to safely pull the woman away from the scene, the unidentified offender refused to comply with the cops and drop the knife, as per the outlet.

One officer also used a taser at the armed man, but it turned out to be ineffective. Instead, the knife-wielding suspect jumped on an officer and stabbed him in the head and shoulder. Immediately after, another officer fired his gun to take him down, O'Connor added, according to CBS News. However, it was unclear how many shots were fired.

The 29-year-old officer who was stabbed was hospitalized with serious injuries. Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested and taken to another hospital. Cops also recovered the knife from the scene.

Witness Lashawn Hurd told CBS News that the unidentified woman who was held at knifepoint was in a state of distress.

"She's nervous. She's a wreck right about now. I mean, they jump in the window and come and do that stuff?" Hurd told the outlet. "You would be nervous too."

Identities of the suspect and the targeted woman were not provided. Other details regarding what led to the incident were not revealed by the authorities.

An investigation was launched into the matter.
