The votes are in, and after a nasty race that saw dirty tactics in a quest to victory, a winner has been declared in Salem’s mayoral race. Now, it won’t take long before that winner takes action on the Thursday, May 16 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Abe (James Reynolds) were engaged in a particularly nasty race for Mayor, with Jack and Eve (Kassie DePaiva) employing every dirty trick in the book that they could find to try and prove Abe was not only unfit to run the town on the NBC soap but was guilty of terrible crimes of his own. However, exit polls were showing Abe with a lead in votes, so they began to accept the fact that they may not win. However, now that the final results are in, the two will be shell-shocked as they learn who won.

“The mayoral election results are announced, and there is a surprising winner,” spoilers reveal.

Likely, the surprise will be that Jack won, since he had a lot of supporters because of his tough stand on immigration, which was made stronger by Haley’s (Thia Megia) forced confession her marriage was a fake and her impending deportation, as well as the fact that the El Fideo drug cartel had recently wreaked havoc in town.

Now, as mayor, he likely won’t hesitate to take action, and his first target could be the Salem PD.

“Hope is fired,” spoilers reveal.

Considering Hope (Kristian Alfonso) has been police commissioner for a while now and hasn’t really managed to put a stop to crime or immigration in the process, that could motivate the decision to have her fired from her job. Of course, it won’t be the only thing at risk, since Haley’s deportation proceedings may now be halted because of an unexpected bombshell from Melinda (Laura Kai Chen), who has since revealed that the younger woman isn’t her sister—but her daughter.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
