"Diablo IV" has officially been announced during BlizzCon 2019, this year's celebration of everything related to Blizzard Entertainment.

The game made an explosive debut at the beginning of Blizzard's official keynote, with a striking cinematic rife with gore and other disturbing sights.

"Diablo IV" takes place several years after those that unraveled in "Diablo III." In the main campaign, the story will follow a devastating event that took place, with "millions" having been slaughtered by both the Burning Hells and High Heavens groups.

Blizzard noted that the series' "darker roots" would soon be resurfacing and it will include familiar classes from earlier games including the barbarian, druid and sorceress.

There was also a brief gameplay trailer shown off, which shows that "Diablo IV" is going to have a very similar feel to previous entries in the series, albeit with a much darker, grittier aesthetic and lore to watch unfold.

Blizzard announced that the game will be built from the ground-up with newer, more modern technology than the previous games utilized.

"This technology is at the heart of everything players will see, hear, and feel — delivering much higher fidelity and more engrossing experience," Blizzard said in their official statement, Business Wire reported. "It opens up countless possibilities for the Diablo series, from smooth character animations, such as the Druid’s fluid shapeshifting, to the seamless, vast overworld players will travel across in search of the next loot-filled underground dungeon."

Unfortunately, Blizzard has yet to announce an official and concrete release date for "Diablo IV." However, it will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Surprisingly, it hasn't been given a green light for Nintendo Switch despite the fact that the "Diablo III Eternal Collection" debuted on the console and plays beautifully.
