Penny and Leonard forever? “The Big Bang Theory” stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki were once an item, and according to a new report, the on-screen couple’s current relationship may have played a role in the demise of Cuoco’s marriage to tennis professional Ryan Sweeting.

In Touch reports in their Oct. 19 print issue that Cuoco, 29, remained close with Galecki, 40, during her 21-month union to Sweeting. Cuoco hasn’t made it a secret that she’s close with her “The Big Bang Theory” co-stars, but it seems her connection to Galecki, who plays her character Penny’s on-screen husband Leonard, may have been a little too close for Sweeting’s liking.

“She was constantly calling her ex Johnny [Galecki] to the point where it was troublesome for Ryan," a “insider" told the magazine. “She’d send him flirty texts and call him at 3 in the morning, asking if she could come over.”

According to the unidentified source, Cuoco told Galecki she regretted their breakup. As most “The Big Bang Theory” fans are aware, the couple parted ways in 2009 after two years of secretly dating, citing they were “not destined to be together,” according to US Weekly. “She still loves him,” the insider told In Touch of Cuoco. “So there is definitely a chance that they’ll get back together.”

OK! magazine recently reported similar findings. “Kaley has a special bond with Johnny, an intensity she never had with Ryan,” reported the site (via HollywoodLife). According to the publication, Cuoco’s relationship with Galecki even helped her identify her issues in her marriage to Sweeting, 28, before filing for divorce Sept. 28.

Contradictory to the recent reports, during an appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” last month Cuoco said her husband and her ex got along swimmingly. “Ryan loves him. Johnny [loves] Ryan. I got lucky,” she said, calling Galecki one of her “best friends.”

While Cuoco has yet to comment on the rumors, it seems her “The Big Bang Theory” fans want to see her rekindle a romance with Galecki. Less than a week after announcing her separation from Sweeting, viewers flooded social media with requests for the actress to get back together with her on-screen lover. Lucikly for fans of “The Big Bang Theory,” they can watch Cuoco and Galecki’s fictional martial bliss every week on the CBS comedy. Season 9 episodes air Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT.
