A dog attacked a 10-month-old baby boy and viciously bit the child's face, according to reports Thursday. The incident took place on July 2 at a home in Cleveland, Ohio.

According to a local report, the boy was being watched by a babysitter when the attack occurred. The dog, a boxer-Rhodesian ridgeback mix, belonged to the babysitter. The canine was reportedly sitting and chewing a bone near the baby. The babysitter told police that the dog attacked the baby when the child reached for the bone the animal was chewing.

The babysitter said she immediately separated the child from the dog and called 911. Paramedics arrived at the scene took the child to a nearby hospital.

Local media reported that police filed a report with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. The babysitter said he would put down the dog following the incident. Other details about the incident remain unclear.

Children getting attacked by dogs were more common than any other age group. Last month, three pit bulls attacked a three-year-old boy at his uncle's house in Norphlet, Arkansas. The child suffered serious injuries to his abdomen and head. In another incident, a three-year-old boy was attacked by three neighborhood dogs in West Sterlington.

Last month, a 2-year-old child was attacked by a dog at the Guilford County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. According to a news release from the shelter, the child was with his family for evaluation of a husky mix for a possible adoption when the dog bit the infant.
