A paralyzed dog’s hind legs were reportedly “sawed-off” by a woman, her daughter, and the daughter’s friend. The incident took place in Slidell, Louisiana.

The police booked a 50-year-old woman, along with her 17-year-old daughter and friend on the grounds of animal cruelty, as the trio reportedly chopped off their pet dachshund's back legs. According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office, the woman and her daughter had reported that their dog was shot earlier this year in February but was not provided with any medical attention, which caused the canine to be partially paralyzed.

Police were informed about the dog’s condition on Sept. 25, after which they executed a search warrant at the duo’s residence only to find the dog’s hind legs completely removed. The offenders tried to cover up the incident by initially informing the officers that the canine’s back legs fell off after it was bandaged too tightly. The sheriff’s office consulted a veterinarian orthopedic surgeon about the same who said the dog’s wounds were “maliciously inflicted”.

Slidell Sheriff Randy Smith said, “As a dog owner myself, I was completely appalled when we received a complaint of such horrific animal cruelty in our community. Our investigators acted swiftly, and the parties responsible have been charged accordingly.”

The 17-year-old teenager was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and was taken to Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center, while her mother was charged with cruelty to animals and released on summons. The daughter’s teenager friend was also arrested for animal cruelty and was later released to the custody of a relative.
