A man from Nashville, Tennessee, was arrested Tuesday after he was caught on camera violently hitting his dog in an elevator.

The incident came to light after one of the employees at the man’s apartment complex contacted the Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and informed them about 33-year-old Brandon Tynes abusing his dogs. The employee handed over a CCTV footage to police which showed Tynes hitting one of his two French bulldogs and throwing it against a wall.

Police said the footage showed the accused “violently” smacking the dog in the face repeatedly inside the elevator. After getting out of the elevator, he throws the canine against a wall. The animal falls five feet to the ground. Tynes was taken into custody and charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

According to the arrest affidavit, police conducted a search of Tynes' apartment and found approximately six grams of marijuana. He was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Tynes was released on bond Wednesday night and was scheduled to appear in court July 12. Meanwhile, the dog was in the care of Metro Animal Control.

Speaking to Fox 17, Kevin Kline, Tynes’s next door neighbor, said, "I just came home from work, and there is this animal control van outside, and about five or six squad cars." "That's pretty heinous, you know, if you're that type of guy, why even have a dog?" he added.

Speaking about the video, Ashley Harrington with MACC said, "It made us all gasp. It was a pretty volatile situation." “Immediately that call went in, we got officers out there, obtained a warrant, and removed the dogs for their safety,” she added.

Green Pea Salon, where the accused worked, said they took the treatment of animals seriously and that he no longer worked there.

“We at Green Pea Salon take few things as seriously as the treatment and welfare of pets and animals. We have been made aware of recent allegations regarding the behavior of a now-former employee. These allegations reference an incident that took place on the former employee's personal time and nowhere near our place of business. We find the reported actions reprehensible and clearly outside the standards of conduct we expect of our employees,” the salon said in a statement.
