A pair of dogs mauled a woman as her young children watched on. The incident took place in the Australian state of Victoria on Friday.

The unnamed victim and her children, aged three and five, were playing with their family dog in the backyard of their home when the two American bulldogs barged through the fence from the neighbor’s property and attacked her. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital with severe arm injuries and was discharged three days later. Meanwhile, the family dog too was seriously injured in the attack. However, the condition of the animal was not known.

Speaking to local radio station 3aw on Tuesday, Craig Kinder, the victim’s father, said the incident had left his daughter “distressed and shocked.” Recalling the incident, he said, “She was telling my granddaughter to take my grandson inside … while these two American bulldogs were busy attacking.”

The owners of the American bulldogs had moved into the neighborhood only four days before the incident. The dogs were put down by the animal control after the attack.

Seeking restrictions of dangerous dog breeds, Kinder said, “The people need to have a license or the breed needs to be banned, and I think the state government needs to do that.”

In a similar incident in Melbourne on Friday, an 11-year-old boy was attacked in the face by a dog in the backyard of his home. The boy was rushed to the hospital where he was listed stable. Meanwhile, the dog, a Doberman, was temporarily secured in the backyard by the emergency services before it was taken away and euthanized.

Kelvin Walsh, the Brimbank Council's city development director, said, "In a tragic backyard attack, an 11-year-old child was mauled in the face by a family Doberman. Our thoughts are with the family of the injured child and we wish the child a speedy recovery.”
