President Donald Trump said Monday that he may hold a funeral this week at the White House for his late brother. Robert Trump, 71, died Saturday in New York.

“We're looking at Friday, and we may do just a small service right here in the White House for my brother,” Trump told reporters shortly before leaving for a campaign event in Minnesota.

“I think it would be a great honor to him. I think he’d be greatly honored. He loved our country. He loved our country so much. He would be so proud of what we were doing and what we are doing for our country,” Trump said.

While wearing a mask, Donald Trump on Friday visited Robert Trump at a hospital, telling reporters that his brother was "having a rough time."

Donald Trump has referred to Robert Trump as his “best friend.” Robert Trump, a real estate executive and businessman, had kept a much lower profile than Donald Trump and retired to New York’s Hudson Valley. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Robert Trump said "I support Donald one thousand percent."

Robert Trump’s cause of death has not been announced. Other members of the Trump family also commented on his passing.

“Uncle Robert, we love you. You are in our hearts and prayers, always,” Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, posted Saturday on Twitter.

“Robert Trump was an incredible man - strong, kind and loyal to the core. Anyone who encountered him felt his warmth immediately. He will be deeply missed by our entire family,” said Eric Trump, the president’s second-oldest son.
