U.S. President Donald Trump isn’t known to keep his opinions to himself and Britain’s royal family is no exception. While Trump most recently slammed Duchess Meghan Markle, he has also shared negative comments about her sister-in-law, Duchess Kate Middleton, in years past.

As noted before Trump met Queen Elizabeth II for the first time in July 2018, Trump is infamous for once criticizing Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, after photographers took photos of her privately sunbathing topless while on vacation with husband Prince William. After French outlets published the nude images in 2012, Trump tweeted, "Kate Middleton is great--but she shouldn't be sunbathing in the nude--only herself to blame.”

Fortunately for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the courts didn’t think Middleton was to “blame” in the situation. As reported by CBS News, the magazines responsible were ordered to pay the couple just over $110K in damages after filing a complaint.

Of course, Markle has also been slammed by the POTUS before. Before Trump’s second presidential meeting with the Queen in June, he was recorded telling The Sun that the newfound royal was “nasty” for her past comments about him. In 2016, when Markle was still an actress, she said during a talk show appearance that she found the then-candidate “misogynistic” and “divisive.”

When Trump’s “nasty” comment was released, he immediately denied the quote. “I never called Meghan Markle ‘nasty.’ Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold!” he tweeted. Trump added that he was doubtful the media organizations responsible would issue an apology for their blunder.

Despite Trump’s claim that the quote attributed to him was “fake news,” The Sun later released an audio recording of the interview, revealing he did, in fact, call the Duchess “nasty” for saying she would move to Canada should he be elected.

However, the recording also revealed that he did have one kind comment to say about the royal. When asked if he felt having an “American princess” would “help the link,” he said, “I think it is nice and I’m sure she will do excellently. She will be very good.”
