Father Kills 6-Month-Old Baby By Smashing Him On Floor During Domestic Dispute

In a shocking incident, a father killed his 6-month-old baby by smashing him on the floor during a fight with his wife.

On Saturday night, Mahendra and his wife Rahisha got into a heated argument at their home in Jodhpur, a city located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The husband got angry and attacked the child in a fit of rage. The baby was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries hours later.

Authorities said Mahendra and his wife had been fighting with each other for few months, the reason for which was not revealed. The troubled wife left her home along with the child. But, just a day before the incident she returned to live with her husband.

Mahendra's wife immediately filed a police complaint against her husband accusing him of killing their baby. According to local daily Dainik Bhaskar and the Google translation of the report, the baby was smashed three to four times on the floor. The baby was severely injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

"In a fit of rage, Mahendra picked his 6-month-old son Rohit and smashed him on the ground. Bewildered wife tried to snatch him but failed," a police official was quoted by the Times of India. After the murder, the father fled the scene and has not been caught yet.

On Monday, a case of murder was registered against the accused. Police said that they are searching for the Mahendra. An investigation is also underway into the incident.

In April, a mother killed her 6-month-old baby by slitting the child's throat to ward off evil spirits. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Telangana. The accused, identified by police as B Bharathi, was living with her partner with whom she had the child. Bharathi was arrested after a formal complaint was filed against her. Police said they were investigating her mental state.
