KEY POINTS

  • Ed Sheeran's net worth is at $408 million
  • He has promised to pay the salaries of staff working at his pub during the COVID-19 lockdown
  • His The Divide Tour earned $600 million in 2019

Ed Sheeran’s net worth has been a trending topic lately. Just how much is he making as one of the biggest stars of his generation?

Sheeran’s net worth is at least $408 million. This puts the singer-songwriter closer to eclipsing the billion dollar mark. He gets most of his fortune from selling albums and concert tickets from tours around the world. The recent tour he had was one of the most successful tours in his career. The Divide Tour fetched around $600 million from tours around the world that spanned almost two years.

In 2019, he was tagged as one of the highest earning celebrities in the world by Forbes. He landed in the fifth spot, behind Taylor Swift (1), Kylie Jenner (2), Kanye West (3), and Lionel Messi (4). He earned $110 million during this time. He also released a new album called "No. 6 Collaborations Project" which featured collaborations with A-listers such as Justin Bieber, Cardi B and Bruno Mars. Rarely does he beef with fellow artists, which is common nowadays, so it’s easy for him to partner with them either as a co-performer, songwriter or producer.

His rise to stardom did not happen overnight. Sheeran has been steadily climbing the hits charts year after year. In 2018, he was the top earning solo musician on Forbes’s list, even beating out close pal and fellow superstar Taylor Swift, reports FOX Business.

His massive wealth puts him in a rare circle of legendary musicians such as Adele, Sir Elton John, U2, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Sir Paul McCartney. The Independent notes that the "Shape of You" singer has overtaken Adele in the 17th spot of richest musicians list in the U.K. The fact that he is still young means the sky's the limit for him and possibly he still has not reached his full potential yet. He is joined by Harry Styles and Niall Horan as the youngest musicians who are already ultra wealthy. Also included in the list are Liam Payne and Zayn Malik and Little Mix.

What makes him close to fans, aside from his talents, is his humble personality. After COVID-19 crippled many people’s source of income, the 29-year-old knew he had to step up. According to NZ Herald, the hitmaker is going to pay all his staff for a month despite the lockdown. Sheeran owns Bertie Blossom, a pub in Notting Hill and he is even allowing his staff to look for other opportunities to earn or help out in relief efforts.
