An elderly Italian couple who were infected with COVID-19 and were quarantined in their home with no medical help died two hours apart from each other.

Luigi Carrara, 86, and Severa Belotti, 82, were confined in their Albino home in the northern province of Bergamo for eight days devoid of medical help during the lockdown, and according to their son, Luca Carrara, he was not allowed to see or visit them, the Daily Mail reported.

Luca said that his father, a retired bricklayer was brought to the local hospital on Saturday and his mother followed the day after.

The couple, who had been married for 60 years, died on Tuesday, one at 9:15 AM, and the other at 11 AM--two hours apart from each other, the New York Post reported.

“Your loved ones are left alone and you can’t even say goodbye, hug them, try to give them some comfort," Luca, a utility worker who was quarantined with the rest of his family said. "[You can’t even tell them] a good lie like, ‘Everything will be fine'."

The grieving son said that his parents' bodies have been moved to a cemetery but would not be cremated immediately as "there are too many dead."
