In what is described as a “really upsetting” attack, a man was caught beating a pet dog before dumping it on the street. The incident took place in a north Hull street in the U.K. on Saturday.

The unidentified suspect first hit the dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier, several times before tying it to a lamp post and fleeing on a bike. A witness immediately comforted the canine before informing the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSCPA).

The RSCPA staff described the dog as a “loving and friendly” elderly canine with a wart on its head.

Describing the incident as “really upsetting,” Claire Mitchell, RSPCA deputy chief inspector, said, “This dog is so loving and friendly it is hard to imagine anyone wanting to deliberately hurt him. The dog is not microchipped but we are hoping that someone may recognize him and come forward, he is an elderly, dark brindle, male Staffordshire bull terrier. He has some distinguishing features such as a wart on his head and a patch of fur missing on his tail. We are really grateful to the member of the public who contacted us about this and who was able to stay with the dog until I could get to him."

Mitchell believes there could be other witnesses who must have seen the suspect. She urged anyone in the area with CCTV to contact them on their inspectorate appeal line by calling 0300 123 8018. According to initial investigation the suspect is believed to be in his early twenties and was wearing a hoodie.
