Keiynan Lonsdale as Kid Flash
The synopsis for Season 3, episode 9 of “The Flash” teases how Barry is going to react when he discovers that Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) is training with H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) on how to use his powers properly. The CW

Barry (Grant Gustin) isn’t going to be thrilled when he finds out that Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) is training with H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) to become a legit superhero.

According to the synopsis for next week’s episode of “The Flash,” Wally reveals that he’s been training with H.R. on how to use his powers properly because he wants to help Barry take down Savitar. Despite H.R. and Wally’s good intentions to lend a hand, their mentor/mentee relationship doesn’t go over well with Barry.

Savitar is unlike any speedster Barry has faced before, so it isn’t hard to understand why he doesn’t want Wally to get involved in his fight against the speed god. It’s unclear, however, whether or not Barry doubts H.R’s capability to train Wally because as revealed in previous episodes, he isn’t that too knowledgeable in science compared to other versions of Wells that they have met before. Either way, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said that H.R. plays an important role in the team.

“He is a genius in his own way,” Kreisberg said of H.R. (via TVLine) during a recent Q&A hosted by The CW. “He’s not a mathematical genius and he’s not a physics genius the way the other Wells were. But he has the capacity to see other people’s talent and how to mine it and how to grow it. He sees that in Wally. … He sees that Wally is special and that’s where he can shine, in helping other people discover their own value and develop their own gifts.”

“It’s kind of why they let him stay around [even though] he’s not [really] providing any actual true value to the team,” the exec producer added (via Collider) during the same event. “He really does have this value in keeping the team together.”

Next week’s episode of “The Flash,” titled “The Present,” airs on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Check out the full synopsis for Season 3, episode 9 below:
