Imagine it’s late at night when suddenly there’s a racket coming from downstairs. The initial response could be that someone has broken and was stealing, or possibly worse. However, that wasn’t the case for a family in Florida who did have an unexpected guest, but not the kind they would have guessed.

The break-in occurred in Clearwater, Florida, when a family awoke to find a hungry guest chilling in their kitchen. The guest in question was an 11-foot-long alligator that made itself comfortable before the family realized it was there.

According to the police report, the alligator managed to break in through a low window in the kitchen before camping out. The homeowner immediately called police about it, who responded along with an animal trapper to get the alligator. Nobody was hurt and the alligator was captured safely.

Clearwater Police posted pictures of the alligator on its Facebook page to highlight the wild intruder.

And this is just the latest in the strange reputation Florida has garnered for itself when it comes to alligators.

Another family in Sarasota, Florida suffered a similar gator visit in 2018 when another 11-foot alligator decided to take a dip in the family pool. One even managed to delay a flight Orlando International Airport when it was spotted taking a quick walk across the airport’s tarmac.

So for anyone intending to move to Florida, make sure to ask if there are any alligators that may try to introduce themselves.
