An elderly man was severely injured and hospitalized after he was viciously mauled by three American Bulldogs on his way home. The incident took place in northwest Miami-Dade, Florida, on Tuesday.

According to police reports, the 63-year-old man, Jack Notis, was walking home from work when he was attacked by three American bulldogs. A surveillance camera footage showed the man falling to the ground as the dogs viciously mauled him. A man in a nearby store could be seen rushing to his help with a wooden stick. Notis was attacked at NW 103 Street and 12th Avenue.

According to local reports, several people including some drivers present there tried to distract the dogs away from the man by making loud noises and someone contacted 911 for help.

Notis was so severely injured and bitten that the first responders had to take him to Ryder Trauma Center. His daughter said she felt very thankful that many people tried to help him.

“Thank you to everybody who came to save my dad. Without them, my dad would’ve been dead by now,” the woman said.

“This is not the first time those dogs attacked. It’s actually the second time," she said adding that the same dogs had attacked two little kids before. “I just hope my dad gets better, we will proceed the legal way."

The owner of the dogs told CBS4 News that the dogs were with him since last year. He said he was unaware of the attack as he was at work at the time and that the dogs were never violent before. He took full responsibility for the incident and offered to pay compensation.

The Miami-Dade Animal services said the dogs will remain in their custody until the "dangerous dog investigation" is over.
