It's quite easy for Sony to give out stuff to its loyal PlayStation 4 followers. They are, after all, sitting on one of the high chairs of the industry.

Call it as a gesture of goodwill or whatnot, giving away a PS4 copy of “one of the best PlayStation VR games” will definitely put a stamp on Sony's legacy as a standard bearer of new technology. Just ask those who were able to receive a copy of Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Digital Trends called Sony's giveaway as a sign that the Japanese powerhouse is “getting into the holiday spirit very early.” Be that as it may, lucky PlayStation 4 owners were ecstatic when they got an email from Sony.

“No catch, no strings...we're just giving you a free PlayStation VR game,” said the email. It's a straightforward message, yes, and those who got it instantly flocked to “websites and forums to report that received free copies of Astro Bot Rescue Mission.”

Redditor u/XarmtheinsaneX posted on the email on the website where it also displayed that it comes with a voucher code that the recipient must use to redeem the PlayStation VR exclusive title for the PS4.

The offer is valid until December and that it is “targeting PlayStation Plus subscribers,” added PlayStation Lifestyle.

It also added that the Reddit poster has yet to confirm the region of PS4 owners who got the free game, but the website pointed that some users in Australia were also able to get the “download code for free.”

But why did Sony gave out the PS4 title free of charge? Astro Bot Rescue Mission is not a dud, not one bit. In fact, it has reaped awards from various gaming bodies including the Best VR/AR Game of 2018. For one, it's Sony's way of enticing gamers to get the PlayStation VR. Some of those who were able to receive the email doesn't have the VR system. In this case, Sony's freebie is a simple thank you to “those who have purchased the PlayStation VR, while aslo enticing those who do not own the system to buy it.”

Released on October 2, 2018, Astro Bot Rescue Mission was created by ASOBI! Team of the Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio. As of July of this year, the title is the “highest rated VR game in history,” and the 6th highest rated PlayStation 4 game in 2018.

Players of Astro Bot Rescue Mission team up with Captain Astro to rescue his lost crew – 212 in total - “scattered in 5 worlds and 20 levels.
