A 12-year-old boy was beaten to death in Augusta, Georgia, by his mother after she found nude selfies of him on his phone. The boy’s mother and her boyfriend were taken into custody and charged with murder.

According to reports, the boy, identified as Derrick Camp, was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center from his home on the 600 block of Forest Ridge Place on Sunday (June 7). The boy was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead by the hospital officials at around 9:22 p.m.

An investigation was conducted into the death, and Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen confirmed Camp suffered a critical head injury and had several healing injuries.

According to Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Derrick’s mother, Jasmine Camp, was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to children in the first degree and murder while in the commission of a felony.

The 32-year-old initially told deputies she tried to help her son when she noticed something was wrong with him after he fell off his bunk bed. However, she later confessed to the officers Derrick was punished after she found his nude selfies on his phone.

Arrest warrants stated Jasmine struck her son multiple times with an extension cord before slamming him twice into the wall. The boy's head had hit the wall and he was then slammed into a corner of a door frame. She also struck him multiple times with a belt on his buttocks, upper back and inner thighs.

The warrant mentioned Jasmine kicked the boy twice in the chest before forcing him to do military squats while holding a book and push-ups until he finally collapsed to the floor.

Officials confirmed, according to the new evidence and lead obtained into the case, Jasmine’s 37-year-old boyfriend, Clarence Arkee Brown, was arrested for the child’s murder.

He was facing charges of murder and four counts of cruelty to children in the first degree.
