Miles (Chris O’Dow) and Rick (Ray Romano) face budget issues as on-set relationships takes a surprising turn in Season 1, episode 7 of “Get Shorty.” Epix

Miles and Rick deal with money issues in Season 1, episode 7 of “Get Shorty.”

According to the synopsis for the next episode of the Epix series, budget problems threaten the production of “The Admiral’s Mistress.” The episode logline doesn’t reveal the cause of the budget issue, but it may have something to do with director Hafdis’ (Peter Stormare) arrest at the end of the last episode.

In the final moments of Season 1, episode 6, two cops arrived at the film’s production office and arrested Hafdis after his car ended up in the swimming pool of the Wilshire Hotel. It’s unclear whether Hafdis gets to keep his position as the director of the film following the incident, but if Miles (Chris O’Dowd) and Rick (Ray Romano) decide to hire a new director, then the production may wind up losing money if Hafdis’ potential successor has a different vision for the film.

Whether or not Hafdis’ arrest has something to do with the budget issue, one thing is for sure: The problem only makes it harder for Louis (Sean Bridges) to get a fee for the film’s script he didn’t write.

Since Miles found out that Louis got himself an agent, Louis has been trying to convince Miles to get Gravity Pictures pay him for the screenplay they stole. “You get the studio to pay me for my script,” Louis told Miles in the episode. “You pay me, and I take care of additional re-writes at no extra cost.”

When asked how exactly he plans to do that, Louis replied: “I’ll find someone who can [write]. L.A. is so full of desperate writers that you can’t find a seat in a coffee shop. I mean, I could easily, just pay someone to help me out.”

Elsewhere in episode 7, as revealed in the synopsis for the hour, on-set relationships take a surprising turn. Rick and Amara (Lidia Porto) ended up sleeping together last episode, and since Amara isn’t going back to Pahrump, Nevada anytime soon, it’s likely that viewers are going to see their relationship develop next episode.

Louis and Rick’s secretary, Gladys (Sarah Stiles), also had a special moment at the office pantry in episode 6. Will the two address the spark between them in the upcoming episode?

“Get Shorty” Season 1, episode 7, titled “Grace Under Pressure,” airs on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 10 p.m. EDT on Epix.
