A few days after rumors hinted the end of Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” may be near, the show has officially been canceled. The announcement was made by the show’s writers on Twitter.

“It is with incredible pride in our work and complete sadness that things end, that I report to this wonderful audience that our show is over,” the announcement read. “I just officially got the call, and would like to thank this audience for its incredible love and loyalty. Please watch our January episodes.”

What would have been the third season’s season finale will now serve as the series finale for the “Boy Meets World” spin-off. As the announcement stated, the final three episodes will air this month with “World Meets Girl” airing on Jan. 6, “Girl Meets Sweet Sixteen” on Jan. 13 and the series finale, “Girl Meets Goodbye” on Jan. 20.

For fans of the series and the original series, the final episode will be a nostalgic one as “Boy Meets World” favorites such as Mr. Turner (Anthony Tyler Quinn), Cory’s parents and sister (William Russ, Betsy Randle, Lindsay Ridgeway and Lily Nicksay) and Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) will all make appearances.

Following the news of the cancellation, the show’s stars such as Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter shared their reactions on Instagram. Blanchard, who plays Riley Matthews, wrote, “I am crying typing this because yes, we were making a show, but our lives turned into a movie.”

Carpenter, who plays Maya Hart, thanked the fans of the series. “To everyone that watched our show and felt something, thank you. To everyone that grew up watching ‘Boy Meets World’ and decided to give our story for a new generation a chance, thank you. And to the little girls reading this, You can do whatever you put your mind to.”
