KEY POINTS

  • Previous installments in the "Grand Theft Auto" series have been limited to just one city or state
  • One of the most interesting aspects of new advancements in gaming is the ability to simultaneously switch between different worlds with no loading screens
  • It's possible then that the long-anticipated "Grand Theft Auto VI" will take advantage of this quality and not be limited to just Vice City or San Andreas

If current technology would allow it, “Grand Theft Auto VI” could end up in multiple cities, not just one.

In the past, games in the “Grand theft Auto” series have been focused on just one city or state. These include London, Anywhere City, Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas (and the accompanying cities of Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas). Other cities have been mentioned, but none have been featured in the games to date.

Yet thanks to advancements in gaming technology, Screen Rant surmises that it’s possible that “Grand Theft Auto VI” could end up in multiple locations. No need to limit the locale to just one.

Fans of the franchise already know that an expanded and updated “Grand Theft Auto Online” is coming, as well as “Grand Theft Auto V” on the PlayStation 5. Yet a significant segment of those fans is already thinking ahead, to the next game in the series. After all, it’s been seven years since “GTA 5” was released by Rockstar Games.

With reports and videos from Sony’s PlayStation 5 Future of Gaming Event, fans now have a better idea of how next-gen technology will affect their favorite video game franchises. One of the most interesting aspects of these new advancements is the ability to simultaneously switch between different worlds with no loading screens.

Rockstar Games was undoubtedly paying attention as well, thus it wouldn’t be impossible to think that the next installment in the “Grand Theft Auto” series would take place in multiple settings and not be limited to a single city or state.

This early, many rumors surrounding “Grand Theft Auto VI” already point to that game emanating from Vice City and the areas near it. Yet it might be more interesting for players if they were allowed to explore multiple smaller cities without the need for expansive landscapes between these locations.

A major issue that has faced open world video game developers is making a world feel big while still giving players many gameplay options. “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” was one of the best games in the series yet it still ran into the problem of having too much empty space separating the areas of high gameplay density.

One solution to this, according to Screen Rant, would be to offer “Grand Theft Auto VI” players a sort of hub area, (i.e. an airport) and allow them access to multiple cities at once. After all, in “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas,” players had the ability to take airplane rides to San Fierro, Los Santos, and Las Venturas (in addition to that one mission which sent them back to Liberty City).

Imagine how amazing it would be in “Grand Theft Auto VI” if players could choose from a list of three or four different locations to visit whenever they got tired of their current surroundings. This would not just allow “Grand Theft Auto” fans more variety in locales, it would also negate the need for the game's developer's to desperately try and reduce player downtime in unpopulated areas.
