  • A viral video sparked rumors that Harry Styles spat on Chris Pine during the premiere of "Don't Worry Darling" in Venice Monday
  • Styles joked during his concert Wednesday that he "popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine"
  • A rep for Pine denied the rumor, calling it "ridiculous"

Harry Styles has addressed internet speculation that he spat on Chris Pine during the premiere of their movie "Don't Worry Darling" at the Venice Film Festival earlier this week.

During his Wednesday concert at New York City's Madison Square Garden, where he is performing a 15-night residency, the 28-year-old singer joked, "Wonderful to be back in New York, I just popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine," Us Weekly reported.

"But fret not, we're back, and our job tonight is to entertain you and I promise, we are going to do our absolute very best," he continued.

Styles' remarks came after a video clip went viral on social media that shows Pine reacting to the "Watermelon Sugar" singer as the latter takes a seat next to him at Monday night's premiere.

After Styles sat down, Pine seemingly looked down and laughed as he paused his applause.

Some fans claimed that they saw Styles spit on the "Star Trek" actor. Others believed that Pine was just searching for his sunglasses, which happened to be in his lap.

A rep for Pine denied the spitting rumor in a statement to multiple outlets, including People, Tuesday.

"This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation," Pine's rep said.

The statement continued, "Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist."

Pine and Styles also went viral this week due to a joint interview. A clip from the interview circulating on social media showed the "Wonder Woman" actor staring at the ground with a blank expression as Styles answered a reporter's question about their new film.

"I think, you know, my favorite thing about the movie is that it feels like a... movie," Styles said during the interview as his co-star appeared to be zoning out. "You know, it feels like a real, like, go-to-the-theater-film movie. You know, the reason why you would go to watch something on the big screen."

Pine's facial expression had some fans joking that he was "dissociating" while Styles was speaking.

"I've been a diehard Chris Pine fan for nearly 20 years now so I consider myself something of an expert, and I can confidently say he is reconsidering all his life choices here... literally dissociating from his surroundings," one fan of Pine commented.

"Don't Worry Darling" hits theaters on Sept. 23.
