Cressida Bonas broke Prince Harry’s heart before he married Meghan Markle.

Bonas has just announced her engagement to Harry Wentworth-Stanley. However, her fiancé isn’t the only Harry in her life. Bonas was close to becoming the Duchess of Sussex when she was dating Prince Harry.

According to Daniela Elser, royal correspondent of New.com.au, while Prince Harry was waiting for his bride, Markle, during their big day, many believed that another woman could have walked down the aisle, and she was Bonas. Prince Harry’s serious relationship before he married Markle was with Bonas.

Bonas was the “typical royal bride.” She has the society connection and she can trace her lineage back to King Charles II. Her half-brother Jaco Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe is a great mate of Prince William and her half-sister Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe was the Duke of Cambridge’s crush way back before he met Kate Middleton. She is also best friends with Prince William and Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie.

“Cressie is going to marry Harry. Harry never stops talking about marriage and children, and she has now got used to the idea,” an insider revealed in 2013.

However, their romance didn’t work out because Bonas realized that she didn’t want to marry the royal family. According to Ingrid Seward, every time Bonas was out, the people would notice her and criticize her. They would also take photos of her and she didn’t like it.

According to Bonas’ brother, she is not a “tough cookie.” She is very sensitive and a sweet girl. So, she didn’t like the unwelcome attention she was getting just because she was dating a royal. In 2014, she broke Prince Harry’s heart when she split with him. The Duke of Sussex reportedly didn’t want to end things between them.

“He was in love with her and he tried to convince her they could make it work, but Cressida’s mind was made up,” Katie Nicholl wrote in “Harry: Life, Loss and Love.”

“She called the relationship off because she knew in her heart this wasn’t what she wanted. Harry suffered a real blow when she said, ‘I can’t do this’. I think she really broke his heart.”

Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s biographer Chris Hutchins was convinced that Bonas was the “most suitable” partner for Prince William’s younger brother. According to him, Bonas’ love for Prince Harry didn’t stem from the fact that he is the Queen’s grandson because she herself comes from a grand ancestry.
