Meghan Markle wasn’t yet officially part of the royal family last Christmas, but she was Prince Harry’s fiancée at the time, and the two wanted to spend the holiday together. So, they did.

Usually, only members of the British royal family are allowed to participate in Queen Elizabeth II’s Christmas Day celebration at her Sandringham estate, but they made an exception in 2017 to include Markle in the special tradition.

The Queen, the future Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as Kate Middleton and Prince William, attended Christmas service at Sandringham’s St. Mary Magdalene Church. After the service, it’s customary that the family watch the queen’s holiday address and eat a turkey meal.

The former “Suits” actress and Prince Harry had announced their engagement just one month prior to Christmas and stepped out for their first official public event a few days after that.

For the Christmas Day services, Markle wore a beige Sentaler coat, brown heeled Stuart Weitzman boots, a brown hat and a velvet dress. She also participated in the family’s traditional Christmas Eve gift exchange the night before.

Now, Markle will be doing it all over again for Christmas 2018, but, this time, as Prince Harry’s wife and officially a member of the royal family.
