It is about to be the beginning of the end for NBC’s “The Good Place.” The original comedy will air its final episodes on the network starting Sept. 26. But before the Season 4 premiere, star Kristen Bell and creator Mike Schur are sounding off on the series' ending.

When viewers last saw Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Jason (Manny Jacinto), and Tahiti (Jameela Jamil), the Bad Place inhabitants were looking for a way to make a Medium Place work with help from Michael (Ted Danson) and Janet (D'Arcy Carden) in an effort to find their way into a more preferable afterlife scenario. While the show’s stars have not revealed outright spoilers about the new season, Bell has hinted at the ending.

So, how will the “The Good Place” end? When speaking to Collider last month, Bell said Schur had concocted a “perfect ending” which resulted in a collective agreement to end the show.

“He found an ending that is as meaningful as the reason he created the show,” she explained. “He wanted to create a show that was a conversation starter, and the ending is a conversation starter. It’s also deeply, deeply meaningful. I don’t think anyone will see it coming. It’s so [expletive] beautiful, and it was very hard to do.”

Bell added of the finale, “It’s the most well-intentioned ending that has meaning and will hopefully be a whole other conversation starter for people... The whole world has to just learn how to try for each other, and to be able to fuse those ideas is an incredible sensation. I have a lot of desire to see goodness in the world. Many people say, ‘Do it with your art,’ and I truly got to do that here.”

The lead actress said she met with Schur in person to learn how the show would come to a close. “I went in and he said, ‘Here’s how it’s gonna go down.’ I just stared at him while he gave me a 10-minute synopsis, and it was just beautiful,” she recalled.

And while Bell didn't divulge exactly what Schur told her, a featurette for the final season does seem to tease that the show's main cast may eventually find their way to the real the Good Place.

While speaking to TVLine earlier this year, Schur shared some details about the finale as well. He said the last episode will be “one gigantic story that will serve as the end of the series for everybody.” He also dished that viewers can expect to see more of Eleanor and Chidi’s love story as well as a “much larger plot story about the universe and how it judges people, and what it means to be a good or bad person.”

The final season of “The Good Place” will have 14 episodes and culminates with a one-hour series finale. “The Good Place” Season 4 premieres Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
