A man from Mount Zion, Illinois, was arrested after he allegedly choked his daughter for not doing her homework.

According to an affidavit obtained by The Herald & Review on Monday, the incident took place on Nov. 15 night.

The 13-year-old girl was working in her bedroom when her father walked in and accused her of talking to “someone she was not supposed to” instead of doing her homework. The 48-year-old man, who was not named by the newspaper, then attacked the girl.

He first pushed her to the floor and locked his left hand around her throat. As he choked the girl with his left hand, he slapped her several times with the other. Upon seeing the girl pleading, the man decided to release her.

Following this, a family friend took the girl to her home till her mother was able to come and get her. It wasn’t clear if the girl’s parents lived separately.

A police case was filed and the officers found red bruising on the girl’s face and neck. The family friend showed a text the girl’s father had sent her. He threatened the girl in the message and said he "just beat and slapped her (expletive) around," the affidavit stated.

Following this, the man was taken into custody and charged with aggravated domestic battery involving strangulation. He was released from jail after he posted a $3,000 bond and was asked to not have any contact with his daughter.

The incident comes months after a California man killed his girlfriend’s 8-year-old daughter for not doing her homework. Clint Mason, 37, beat Ger’Mya Amirah Alexander repeatedly with a metal cane and belt. He then locked her in the bedroom and went away. When he returned a few hours later, her found her laying unconscious. He informed his girlfriend and fled the home. Mason was traced by the police and taken into custody. He was charged with murder, torture and willful cruelty to a child. Court documents said the victim was "covered from head to toe" in injuries.
