Sean Connery died in his sleep at 90 last month from heart failure, pneumonia and old age, his death certificate reveals.

The James Bond actor’s death certificate, obtained by TMZ, showed details about his passing on Oct. 31 at his home in the Bahamas. The document revealed that Connery died at 1:30 a.m. and his listed occupation is “retired actor.”

The certificate said Connery died after suffering from “pneumonia, respiratory failure, old age [and] atrial fibrillation.” The last is a condition that can lead to blood clots, strokes and heart failure.

Earlier this month, Micheline Roquebrune, his wife of 45 years, opened up about the star’s death and revealed that Connery suffered from dementia before he died. She said her late husband’s struggle with the syndrome “took a toll on him.”

“It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly,” Roquebrune said of Connery.

“At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted,” the French-Moroccan artist continued.

Connery passed away in his sleep, surrounded by Roquebrune and their children, Stephane and Jason. The latter told BBC that the family has yet to fully grasp the actor’s death even though he had been sick for quite some time prior to his demise.

“A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor,” Jason added.

Roquebrune also previously revealed that Connery’s ashes would be brought to his home country, Scotland, which she said was the actor’s “final wish.” At the time, the widow said that they plan to do this when the restrictions on traveling have relaxed.

“We would like to organize a memorial service for him in Scotland – that is our hope. But we cannot say when this will happen exactly," Roquebrune added.

After his death, many celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the original James Bond. Pierce Brosnan, who also played the character, described Connery as a “cinematic splendor that will live on forever.”

Daniel Craig, who is the latest to play Agent 007 on the big screen, underlined the legacy that Connery left and said that the late actor “will be remembered as Bond and so much more.”
